8 Weeks Pregnant

Your Baby

You are 8 weeks pregnant and your baby is growing very fast. All the major organs are there but are still developing. The eyes and ears have formed and the heart is beating away. Blood vessels can also be seen.

Your baby’s arms and legs are growing longer, and as this happens, your baby starts to make its first movements, kicking around. You can’t feel a thing though because baby is still very small, around 2.5cm or 1 inch long.

Yourself

Week 8 and still you're feeling very tired and maybe very sick too. Try to get early nights and rest when you can, asking your partner to help you with chores that you can’t manage.

Your lower abdomen will be starting to look a bit rounder, but nothing very noticeable yet. Your breasts will have become larger and more sensitive and you may have noticed an increase in vaginal discharge.

You will probably be starting to come to terms a bit more with the fact that you are pregnant. The various symptoms will probably be making it more real. If you are feeling really rough, try to remind yourself that most women feel much better in their second trimester, so you’ve only got a few more weeks to go.

My Second Pregnancy Diary - Week 8

We are on holiday this week on the Isle of Wight. I’m feeling really quite sick and I’m trying my best to manage it by snacking regularly, but I seem to be vomiting every day.

It’s that horrid feeling, you’re sitting down because you feel exhausted, your tummy is starting to get a bit empty and the nausea creeps in, getting worse and worse by the minute. You know that if you don’t heave yourself up and make yourself something to eat that it will just get worse and worse. But you really feel like you can’t be bothered, and what can you eat anyway? The thought of swallowing anything makes you want to vomit. But you have to force yourself.

The thought of weeks of this ahead makes me feel a little bit fed up if I’m honest.

It’s still nice to get away, and I’ve noticed that, at 8 weeks pregnant, my tummy is really starting to show and that I also am getting quite a lot of bloating after I eat. I texted my sister as I was worried about the bloating, but she looked it up for me and said that bloating is very common during second pregnancies. It’s nothing to worry about.

We’ve ended up spending more on food than we normally would on holiday because I have to keep eating at strange times while we are out. I have to admit that the sickness is marring the holiday a little bit. Especially when I have to get out of the car and vomit by the side of the road in front of the passing traffic.

We got back home safely and although I’m not feeling well, at this stage, 8 weeks pregnant, I still think that the sickness was worse last time. Time will tell.
